What Happened With Horseback Caroling Sunday

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Several Common Fence Point residents were surprised to not find horseback caroling this past weekend. Here’s what happened.

The Aquidneck Riders 4H Club was expected to hold its 5th annual Christmas Caroling on Horseback parade this past Sunday morning throughout Common Fence Point, starting at 11 a.m. at the VFW. The event was advertised with local press, on social media, and on the Common Fence Point neighborhood sign (still posted Sunday morning).

According to organizers Monday, the event was canceled due to weather.

“Hello everyone! Unfortunately we are going to cancel tomorrow due to the weather. We’re going to miss this year, but will be back in 2017! Have a great Holiday Season,” wrote one organizer in a Facebook post.

The weather on Sunday included warmer temperatures with roads slightly wet from recent rain. The snow from Saturday morning was mostly gone by Sunday morning.

The event also included a collection of non-perishable canned goods for veterans. It is unknown if another canned food drive will be held to replace this event.
