PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — The Portsmouth Economic Development Committee will investigate the financial benefits of selling the former Elmhurst School property for the development of waterfront housing.
The PEDC met Wednesday night at Town Hall, where the committee discussed future use of the Elmhurst property.
Duncan Ingraham, a PEDC member, proposed selling the former Elmhurst property adjacent to the Glen Manor House on Heidi Drive and returning DEM grant funds.
Selling more than 2 acres of the Glen property would require a public referendum, according to town ordinance.
The committee voted to allow Ingraham to research the financial benefits of selling the property to develop waterfront housing.
His report is expected at the next PEDC meeting on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
