PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Tuesday afternoon due to accumulating snow in the forecast. How much snow? Find out here.
The Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from noon Tuesday until 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Snow is expected to develop Tuesday afternoon. A total of 2 to 4 inches is expected by Wednesday morning.
The following Winter Weather Advisory was posted on the NWS website:
* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW. * ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 2 TO 4 INCHES. * TIMING...SNOW DEVELOPING EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. A BRIEF PERIOD OF HEAVY SNOW IS POSSIBLE LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING WHICH WILL IMPACT THE EVENING COMMUTE. SNOWFALL RATES MAY REACH INCH PER HOUR FOR A BRIEF TIME. SNOW WILL TAPER OFF AFTER MIDNIGHT. * IMPACTS...UNTREATED ROADS AND WALKWAYS WILL BECOME SLIPPERY. HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS EXPECTED DURING THE EVENING COMMUTE. * TEMPERATURES...IN THE LOWER 30S. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL CAUSE PRIMARILY TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES.
