PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — The Portsmouth Town Council approved Monday to release contributions previously promised to the Aquidneck Island Planning Commission (AIPC) for fiscal years 2016 and 2017, totaling $36,000.
The release of funds is contingent upon a response from the town’s auditor.
The vote was 5 to 2 with Councilors Paul Kesson and Elizabeth Pedro against.
The vote occurred after a lengthy discussion about the AIPC audit, financing, and the organization’s 501-c status.
The funds, $18,000 in each year or $36,000 in total, were previously approved in a recorded motion by the council, who withheld the funds pending acceptance of an independent audit.
The AIPC submitted an independent audit of AIPC’s most recent fiscal year at Monday night’s meeting.
