PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Calling all seniors and parents! Portsmouth High School (PHS) recently announced the following important graduation dates and information.
Senior Project boards (May 17-18)
All graduates from Portsmouth High School must complete all components of Senior Project in order to qualify for a diploma.
Final presentations are scheduled for Wednesday, May 17, and Thursday, May 18, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Parents are invited to observe.
Senior Awards Night (May 25)
The awards night will be held on Thursday, May 25, in the PHS Gymnasium at 6:30 p.m. All seniors and their parents are welcome.
Qualifications for graduation (May 26)
Grades close for seniors at noon on Friday, May 26. Each senior must fulfill all graduation requirements (including Senior Project) by that date in order to be eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony.
Graduation rehearsal (May 30-31)
All graduation rehearsals are mandatory for all seniors expecting to participate in the ceremony.
Seniors who are late or miss rehearsals will be required to make up the time on Friday, June 2.
Students should report to the gymnasium for rehearsals on Tuesday, May 30, and Wednesday, May 31, from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
Cap and gown (May 31)
The cap and gown fee is $30 and may be paid to Mrs. White. Providing there are no outstanding obligations, students will receive their cap and gown package after graduation rehearsal on Wednesday, May 31.
Senior Prom (May 31)
Prom will be on Wednesday, May 31, at the Viking Hotel in Newport from 7 to 11 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. and close at 8 p.m. No students will be admitted after 8 p.m. Proper formal attire is required for admittance.
The Post Prom Party is held at the Newport Elks Club beginning at 11 p.m. and lasting until 3 a.m. All seniors and their dates are encouraged to attend the post prom.
Graduation ceremony 2017 (June 2)
Graduation will be held on Friday, June 2, at 6 p.m. on Robert Crudup Baseball Field at Portsmouth High School, 120 Education Lane, Portsmouth.
Seniors should report to the cafeteria no later than 5 p.m.
Attire for graduation is slacks, shirt and tie for men and dresses, skirts or dress pants for women. There may be no adornments on graduation caps or robes except school-issued Honor Society cords.
If the forecast calls for inclement weather, graduation will be held in the PHS gymnasium. A decision will be made at 1 p.m. on the afternoon of June 2 as to the location and is irreversible.
Each graduating senior will receive 7 inclement weather tickets in their cap and gown package.
