Obituary: Manuel M. Pimentel, 94, of Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Manuel M. Pimentel, 94, of Portsmouth, RI passed away, Sunday, October 15, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He came to America in 1958 and met his beloved wife of 58 years, the late Delight G. (Sousa) Pimentel.

Born in Ribeira Seca, Ribeira Grande, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose J. and Cesaltina S. (de Medeiros) Pimentel. 

Manuel served in the Portugal Army and then the Portugal Customs Department. After moving to America, he worked for over 30 years at Pearson Yachts as Head of the Carpentry Shop. He was a devoted member of St. Anthony’s Church in Portsmouth, RI.

He leaves his daughter Lori A. Arruda and her husband John of Tiverton, his two grandchildren, Amber D. Mello and her husband Jeffrey, Joshua M. Arruda and his wife Melissa as well as a great-granddaughter Iris Edith Arruda.

Manuel is also survived by two sisters Fernanda DeBrum of East Taunton, MA and Olga Cabral of Fall River, MA and many nieces and nephews. His love and generosity to his family will be greatly missed.

Calling hours will be held Friday, October 20, 2017, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.

His funeral will be held Saturday, October, 21, at 10:30 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in St. Anthony’s Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Burial will take place in Trinity Cemetery.
