TIVERTON, R.I. — Helen (Woehrle) Alvernes, 92, of Tiverton, RI, died on Monday, March 5, 2018, at home in Tiverton, RI.
She was the wife of the late Joseph R. Alvernes; they were married for 56 years. Together they raised 8 children.
Born on September 28, 1925, in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (McNerney) Woehrle, and the stepdaughter of Elmer Cottrell.
Mrs. Alvernes worked as an office manager for Ravin Steel, and also worked at the Sheraton-Double Tree Hotel on Goat Island for 19 years, was co-owner of North Shore Van Lines in Middletown for 31 years and an operator supervisor for the New England Telephone company for 7 years. She enjoyed playing Bocce for the Middletown F.O.P.
She is survived by her children, Joseph Alvernes of Tiverton, RI, Jeffrey Alvernes of Little Compton, RI, , Judith Nagle of NH, Jane Halliday of Portsmouth, RI, Jill St. Ours of Tiverton, RI, Jerilyn Gardner of Jacksonville, FL and Jacquelyn DeMello of Portsmouth, RI, her siblings, Charles Woehrle of Clifton, NJ, William Cottrell of Myrtle Beach, SC, Robert Cottrell of Sun City, AZ and Catherine Byrnes of New Milford, NJ, seventeen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild .
A visitation and memorial service will be held at a later date.
Burial will be private.
