PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Joseph L. Escobar, 75, of Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at home after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife Alice Rosa Escobar to whom he had been married for 55 years. He also leaves three sons Joseph and his wife Sallie of Weslaco, TX, Michael of North Kingstown, and John and his wife Kerrie of Portsmouth, as well as five grandchildren, the gifts and loves of his life. He also leaves two sisters Maria Lena Soares and her husband Horace and Maria Leontina Cooper and husband Donald along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joseph was born in Fayal, Azores, he came to America with his family on April 5, 1960. His first jobs were with Hoogendoorn Nursery and the Steward Duncan Estate, the Howard Cushing Estate and the Mendonca Nursery. He then worked as the assistant manager for Manpower Food Service, Gally 355, UG Nasons and Sons then lastly for Raytheon retiring after 30 years.
Joseph loved gardening and was a loyal Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox and Patriot Fan. He was a devout Christian and read his Bible daily.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 10:00AM to 11:00 AM in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery.
