PORTSMOUTH, R.I. \u2014 Burma Road, also known as Defense Highway, will close for one month for repairs, announced Naval Station Newport. Find out about traffic detours here.\r\n\r\nThe road closure will begin Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 9 a.m.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe road closure will continue through Oct. 12.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe road will be closed from Stringham Road (Portsmouth) to Greene Lane in Middletown. Vehicles may still access Weaver Cove from Stringham Road.\r\n\r\nCommuters who travel along Burma Road or Defense Highway will need to detour, according to the map below. Commuters should allow for extra time on their route.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe 4 Bridges Ride, an annual bicycle ride across theJamestown Verazzano Bridge, the Newport Claiborne Pell Bridge, the Sakonett River Bridge, and the Mt. Hope Bridge, will continue this weekend as scheduled, according to EastBayRI.com. The charity bike ride route travels along Defense Highway.
