PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Members of the Portsmouth Fire Department transported three people to the hospital Thursday after a multi-vehicle crash on West Main Road. None of the injuries were reported to be life-threatening.
On Thursday, Jan. 17, at 7:40 a.m., Portsmouth police responded to West Main Road at Hedly Street for a report of a multi-vehicle accident.
Upon arrival, officers observed there to be four vehicles involved.
A 24-year-old male was operating a black Dodge Durango northbound on West Main Road and lost control of his vehicle, which swerved into the southbound lane and collided with another vehicle head-on.
The Dodge Durango also struck two other vehicles in the northbound lane. Those vehicles sustained minor damage.
The Portsmouth Fire Department responded and extracted the 24-year-old from his vehicle.
Three people involved with the accident were taken to local hospitals with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The roadway was shut down for approximately one hour.
