PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — The Portsmouth Purple Dodgeball Tournament, an annual event as part of the THP Project Purple Initiative, will take place this week. Find more out about this event here.
This is the week to sign up to be a part of the dodgeball tournament taking place on Thursday, Jan. 25.
Turn in team names at the main office this week through Thursday with a payment of $20 per team or just $4 per person.
The tournament will take place Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. in the new gym at Portsmouth High School, 120 Education Lane.
This year celebrates six years of the THP Project Purple Initiative, a national initiative of The Herren Project, a non-profit foundation established by Portsmouth resident Chris Herren, a former NBA basketball player, motivational speaker, author and sobriety advocate. The Herren Project assists individuals and families struggling with addiction through treatment navigation, education and mentoring.
The Herren Project’s Project Purple Initiative goals are to create awareness and educate the public on the epidemic of substance abuse while encouraging teens and people of all ages to make positive decisions and stand up to drugs and alcohol.
As a result of the THP Project Purple Initiative, expect to see more purple around Portsmouth from Jan. 21 to Feb. 1 in the form of colored lights, flags and clothing.
