PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — At their March board meeting, the Portsmouth Historical Society received a check for $8,000 from the Heritage Harbor Foundation’s Grants Committee Chairman, Russ DeSimone.
This grant will be used by the society to restore the interpretive signage at Lehigh Hill and Heritage Park relating to the Battle of Rhode Island, and for new signage in Melville at the site of the Civil War Hospital and at the site of the Portsmouth Coalmines.
Historical Society member Nathan Minese is the driving force behind these much needed updates and has volunteered his time and energy to get these projects completed. He is being guided by Society Board member Dave Gleason in this endeavor. Nathan’s project is expected to be completed sometime later this year.
