Volunteers collect 1,574 lbs. of trash from Sakonnet Bridge beach
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Volunteers with Clean Ocean Access and the Common Fence Point Global Awareness Local Action group helped remove 1,574 pounds of trash and debris from Sakonnet Bridge beach last weekend.
Over the last month, Clean Ocean Access and the Common Fence Point Global Awareness Local Action group volunteers have removed a total of 3,083 lbs. of trash from the shoreline and marshes between the Mt. Hope Bridge and Sakonnet River Bridge.
Broken down that is:
- 37 volunteers, young and old, at 4 cleanups, for a total of 12 hours, covering 4 miles of shoreline and 5 salt marshes.
- 1,282 gallons and 1,637 lbs of small debris (bottles, plastic, foam, etc.)
- 1,446 lbs of large debris (16 tires, 2 Oil Drums, 80 ft plastic pipe, 2 Chairs, 1 Grill, 1 Wheelbarrow, 1 Sink, 1 Safe, many Foam Blocks and broken dock pieces.
