The Portsmouth Police would like to warn Portsmouth residents of coyotes that have been responsible for the deaths of several pets in the area in the past several weeks. The areas of concern are the neighborhoods from Prospect Farm Road south to McCorrie Lane, which also spans east to the Sakonnet River. Our Department is currently working with Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management to address this issue. Residents are reminded never to feed wildlife or provide any food sources for these animals. We also strongly encourage residents to be vigilant in keeping watch over their pets when letting them out or walking them. Residents are encouraged to refer to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management website (www.dem.ri.gov) for additional information.
