Portsmouth Water and Fire District to replace automatic meter readers

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — The Portsmouth Water and Fire District installed an automatic meter reading system in 2013, but will need to replace some units.

The system is radio-operated and allows all meter readings to reach the District’s office through radio signals and the internet. In some locations, the radio units’ battery has died and the units need to be replaced.

The District has a warranty with Baystate Winsupply to replace the radio units on the outside of each property.

This involves replacing the existing device on the outside of the house with a new device.

Normally, this process does not require the contractor to enter the house, nor does it require the customer to be home or to make an appointment, although in certain cases an appointment may be necessary.
