PORTSMOUTH, R.I. \u2014 The \u00a0Audubon Society of Rhode Island\u00a0and\u00a0Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve will hold a Hiking on Prudence Island event this week.\n\nThe event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.\n\nPrudence Island has several miles of hiking trails that cover a range of habitats from forested wetlands to coastal meadow and pine barrens. Head to Prudence for what is sure to be a beautiful fall hike.\n\nPace will be moderate as approximately four miles will be covered through a mix of terrain. Trails are well maintained and areas of high grass will be avoided to reduce exposure to ticks. Educators from the Narragansett Bay Research Reserve will greet guests as they arrive on the island, be guides for the day and provide vehicle transportation. Due to limited space, reservations are required.\n\nDepart on the 1:30 p.m. ferry from Bristol and return on the 6 p.m. ferry. Ferry crossing is 30 minutes.
