Audubon Society to hike Prudence Island
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — The Audubon Society of Rhode Island and Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve will hold a Hiking on Prudence Island event this week.
The event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Prudence Island has several miles of hiking trails that cover a range of habitats from forested wetlands to coastal meadow and pine barrens. Head to Prudence for what is sure to be a beautiful fall hike.
Pace will be moderate as approximately four miles will be covered through a mix of terrain. Trails are well maintained and areas of high grass will be avoided to reduce exposure to ticks. Educators from the Narragansett Bay Research Reserve will greet guests as they arrive on the island, be guides for the day and provide vehicle transportation. Due to limited space, reservations are required.
Depart on the 1:30 p.m. ferry from Bristol and return on the 6 p.m. ferry. Ferry crossing is 30 minutes. Ferry ticket is not included in the price and is about $12 round trip/adult.
