Portsmouth Historical Society to Celebrate the Season With International Giving Tuesday

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — This year, Portsmouth Historical Society will celebrate the season of giving by joining the International “GivingTuesday” movement with a social media campaign.

“GivingTuesday,” taking place Dec. 3, is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage giving and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Every year, on “GivingTuesday,” millions of people across the globe (almost 60 countries) mobilize to show up, give back, and change their communities. The goal is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day and touches every person on the planet.

The Portsmouth Historical Society Giving Tuesday campaign is designed to show the online community and local residents the significance of the importance of their efforts in preserving and interpreting Portsmouth’s long and rich history.

The society is hoping, through the support of the online community, that desperately needs funds will be collected.

“These funds will be used to upgrade our technology and create historical storyboards our displays,” said Society President Anne Northup-Burns.

The Portsmouth Historical Society’s Giving Tuesday campaign is not just about raising needed funds but to educate local residents that they and their skills are needed as volunteers, too.

Campaign supporters are directed to the Society’s webpage,, for donation and volunteer instructions.

Founded in 2012, GivingTuesday has inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in.
