Historical Society to Host Prohibition Lecture on 100th Anniversary

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Town Historian Jim Garman will give a lecture titled “Last Call: The Beginning of Prohibition” with emphasis on the local aspect of “The Noble Experiment.”

The lecture will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Portsmouth Free Public Library. The event is co-sponsored by the library and the Portsmouth Historical Society.

This date is carefully chosen because it commemorates the night Prohibition went into effect, precisely at midnight, 100 years ago to the date.

With limited seating, please call the library at 683-9457 to make a reservation.
