Commode
Located in Marble House, Library
This Louis XV inlaid commode has a serpentine body and a marble top. The piece continues with two drawers and ormolu mounts. This commode is in the manner of Jean-Francois Oeben (1721-1763), a German cabinet maker who worked in Paris and created many pieces for Madame de Pompadour. This piece was purchased by Harold S. Vanderbilt from French & Co. in New York and given to the Preservation Society of Newport County in 1979.
