A story was published Thursday, announcing the application process.\n\nPORTSMOUTH, R.I. \u2014 The Town of Portsmouth has developed an application process for allowing temporary outdoor dining, for those food establishments currently licensed by the town, that will continue through Oct. 15, 2020.\n\nThe specific guidelines and application process have been issued in an Executive Order signed on May 13 by the President of the Town Council.\nRestaurants may apply for the temporary expansion of their food service areas to permit the service and consumption of food in outdoor portions of the licensed premises on or after May 18, 2020. Restaurants with a current liquor license may also apply for temporary expansion of their liquor services area.\nAll applications shall include a plan showing the proposed outdoor service area; the proposed number of seats (capacity may not exceed the current licensed capacity); the location of physical barriers or other protection to keep diners separated from other trafficked areas; and, for restaurants wishing to temporarily convert a portion of off-street parking areas into service areas, a parking plan. The application shall also show evidence that the expanded service area is covered by liability insurance. Where any portion of the proposed area of temporary expansion is owned by a separate legal entity, a written authorization from the property owner must be presented and where use of a tent is proposed, a separate tent permit application shall be required.\nAll temporary expansions of service areas shall make adequate provisions for parking; the physical safety of diners; shall be operated in compliance with social distancing or other applicable regulations issued by RI Dept. of Health and\/or RI Dept. of Business Regulation; shall comply with all applicable fire codes; provisions of the Life Safety Code; applicable provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act and applicable provisions of the Portsmouth Zoning Code. Some portions of the\u00a0Zoning codes will be suspended such as requirements for a Special Use Permit, parking requirements and construction of temporary off-street parking areas.\u00a0 All applications shall be subject to\u00a0review by the Building Official, Fire Marshal, Police, Town Clerk and\/or such other Town officials as may be designated by the Town Administrator.\nApplications for food service expansion may be administratively approved by the Town Clerk.
