PORTSMOUTH, R.I. \u2014 With the hurricane season almost upon us, the Portsmouth Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), in cooperation with the Town of Portsmouth, are seeking volunteers to assist in planning for evacuation and sheltering for severe weather events.\n\nHurricane season officially starts June 1, and with the current COVID-19 restrictions, some of the traditional response and recovery evacuation and sheltering practices will require changes.\n\nThe planning process is the responsibility of the local municipality and, as such, PEMA is looking for individuals who can commit to help draft an updated local plan. Ideally, volunteers will have some exposure to emergency response planning.\n\nIn addition, those with experience in the hotel, food, and transportation industries are strongly encouraged to volunteer. Also encouraged are representatives from mobile home parks, flood prone neighborhoods, assisted living and nursing home facilities, and subsidized living communities.\n\nIf you wish to volunteer, please contact Ray Perry, Director of Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) at email@example.com by Wednesday May 27th, 2020. Please provide your contact and experience information.\n\nYou may also leave this information in the Town Hall mailbox or mail it to PEMA, 2200 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871. If you have any questions, call Ray Perry at 401-477-2172.
