The Potter League for Animals took necessary steps to protect against the spread of COVID-19 and prepare for what the animals and people in our community will need during this health crisis. Our response included the temporary closure of some programs that went into effect on March 16 while expanding others. Now, we are to taking steps to slowly reopen services following local, state, and federal guidelines.

𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 & 𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥:
🟠 Our Animal Care and Adoption Center will continue to operate by appointment-only, Monday – Sunday, 10:00am – 5:00pm.
🟠 Until further notice, for health and safety reasons, the public will not be permitted in the shelter or lobby waiting areas without an appointment.
🟠 Animals available for adoption will continue to be posted on potterleague.org/adopt/. Please check often, as available animals will change daily. If you are interested in adopting an animal that you saw on our website, please complete our online adoption application or call 401.846.8276, Monday – Sunday, 10:00am – 5:00pm to schedule an appointment.
🟠 We will not be allowing social or casual visits to the shelter at this time.
𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦 & 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗬𝗦:
🟠 Effective Sunday, May 31, PL’s Animal Admissions will resume normal intake procedures, but will continue to require an appointment. We have removed our emergency only intake status. Call 401.846.8287 to discuss your needs for your pet. For more information about surrendering your pet please visit our website.
🟠 We serve as the housing facility for the animal control departments of Newport, Middletown and Portsmouth. Strays found by concerned citizens, police officers and animal control officers are brought to the Potter League. If you have a situation involving an animal, please call your local animal control officer. If you find a stray animal and animal control is unable to assist, please call us at 401.846.8276. If after hours, please contact your local police department.
𝗗𝗢𝗚 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗦:
🟠 We have resumed our dog training program, however this is limited to classes only and we will be practicing social distancing guidelines and limiting the number of persons per class. There are no playgroups at this time. Please visit our website to see available classes.

At this time, our Spay & Neuter Clinic is taking steps to slowly reopen. We will not be taking new appointments until further notice. If you have questions about an existing appointment, please reach out to our clinic at email@example.com.

As per state guidelines, all employees and visitors of the Potter League are required to wear face coverings, stand at least 6’ apart, and follow CDC hygiene guidelines.
We know that this crisis is far from over, but we have also learned that our shared commitment to helping animals is unwavering. So many have reached out asking how they can help.
