PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — The Portsmouth Water and Fire District has lifted its mandatory odd-even water conservation restrictions effective Monday, September 14.

According to Philip Driscoll, Chairman of the Administrative Board, the mandatory restrictions are no longer required, as water demand has returned to normal levels due to cooler temperatures. The District implemented a mandatory odd-even water ban for outside water use on August 21st.

Mr. Driscoll indicated that the mandatory conservation efforts were successful in helping to reduce peak water demand to a manageable level during this period of extended dry weather conditions. On behalf of the Administrative Board and the District’s staff, Mr. Driscoll thanked the District’s customers for their understanding and cooperation with this important water conservation program. Mr. Driscoll also recommended that customers continue to practice water conservation as a matter of course.
